Winter Recreation

Snowshoe or cross country ski the trails at Kent Park, Ashton Cross Country Course, Coralville Creekside Cross and Macbride Nature Recreation Area. Keep up to date with trail conditions by following the Iowa City Nordic Club.

The public can rent equipment from UI Recreational Services, including sleds, snowshoes and skis.

The university's outdoor recreation club partners with Brown Deer Golf Club to groom several cross country ski loops at the course. All loops start at the clubhouse area and utilize the course on the south side Oakdale Boulevard. A track parallel to the cross country ski loops is also groomed for snowshoe use.

Sledding is also a popular activity at Brown Deer. While the city does not designate or groom them, sledding hills are open to the public. Snow conditions are monitored and Brown Deer staff will post signs regarding availability of outdoor activities.

The family will love North Liberty's outdoor skating at Penn Meadows Park. Skating is open 9am - 9pm daily January through March (weather dependent). Bring your own skates or rent skates at the Community Center.

For all your cold weather gear, visit local shops Fin & Feather, Active Endeavors and Scheels.
