Summer

Spring is a welcome change after the winter months. Spend time outdoors by exploring local parks by packing a picnic lunch to enjoy at North Ridge Park, Hickory Hill Park or the gazebo on the corner of Penn Meadows Park. Rent a bicycle from Sugar Bottom Bikes or bring your own for a ride on the Iowa River Corridor Trail, the area's longest trail. Stop at the Iowa River Landing to explore the many retailers and activity on foot. If you enjoy sporting events, attend a University of Iowa baseball or softball game at Duane Banks Field and Bob Pearl Field, respectively. The tennis team is also in season and hosts meets on the sports campus.

For a memorable day trip, head 20 minutes west to the Amana Colonies in May for the annual Maifest celebration, a German festival featuring a parade, food and open doors by local businesses. F.W. Kent Park is a beautiful state park you'll find on the way and worth a visit also.
