Iowa City comprises a collection of three communities united as one. The collegiate spirit of Iowa City, the retail mecca of Coralville and the parks and open spaces of North Liberty all add up to a Johnson County community unlike any other anywhere.
Iowa City is a center for art, culture, education and recreation. It boasts a vibrant, bike- and pedestrian-friendly downtown with many bars, restaurants, boutique shops a blend of new urban and historic neighborhoods. Home of the University of Iowa, world class health care and a rich literary heritage, the city continues to be recognized on a national scale.
Coralville boasts 1.2 million square feet of retail inside Coral Ridge Mall and continues to grow in retail offerings. The 180-acre Iowa River Landing brings together condominium space alongside hotels, local restaurants, boutique shopping, historical museum and sculpture walk. The Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, a 482-seat, state-of-the-art venue, and a spacious public library also call this thriving community home.
North Liberty is a gateway to the many recreational opportunities afforded by parks, trails, Coralville Lake and Hawkeye Wildlife Preserve. In the heart of the city is the North Liberty Community Center, home to the recreation center, outdoor aquatic center and Community Library, offering events and programs all year long for all ages.
With more than a dozen museums, nine programs offering literary readings, five writing outreach programs, and seven community and professional theatre companies, numbers are important throughout these united, diverse communities. The beloved Englert Theatre is just one of over 75 local sites on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearly two dozen Big Ten sports add collegiate excitement to a community already rich in recreation with more than 70 parks near rivers, ponds, lakes and trails.
