In Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England, playwright Madeleine George examines jealousy and mortality in a New England college town disrupted by the announced closing of the natural history museum. Dean Wreen invites ex-girlfriend Greer to stay with her while Greer undergoes experimental treatment for recurrent cancer, an arrangement complicated by the presence of Andromeda, Dean Wreen's much younger lover. While the women navigate this "alternative kinship structure," townspeople clamor to save the museum's wooly mammoths. Using elements of both Shakespearean and situational comedies, George weaves together dioramas, love-triangles, and Friends references into a play that asks us to "decrease our certainty about the way things are" and embrace change and loss.
