The Family Folk Machine is Iowa City’s intergenerational, non-auditioned community choir with a mission to build community, educate about American history and culture, and promote individuals’ musical development. The spring 2020 concert will be “One Planet” in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. We’ll sing about the earth and our relationship to it many ways including conservation, the beauty of the natural world, and our responsibilities to this planet we call home.
This spring’s program includes a variety of music, coming from favorites such as Electric Light Orchestra, Dolly Parton, REM, and Pete Seeger, as well as newer and lesser-known works. The “One Planet” concert will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Englert Theatre. The kids will also perform an original song with shadow puppets in collaboration with Monica Leo from the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre.
