An Irreverent Look at Aging and Its Surprises

TRAIL of Johnson County invites the public to attend its 2019 community-wide event, “Invisibility, elderly cats, and swimming raccoons: An irreverent look at aging and its surprises," featuring local actor and award-winning playwright Janet Schlapkohl, who weaves her experiences as the daughter of aging parents and spouse of a large-animal veterinarian into a funny, edgy, yet loving look at the so-called golden years. Preceding Schlapkohl’s monologue will be a musical prelude by the Mektoub trio, featuring John Rapson, retired head of the University of Iowa Jazz Studies Program, and “Hot Tamale Louie” veterans Daniel Gaglione and Ryan Smith. This free performance will take place in the Schwab Auditorium of the Coralville Public Library. Doors open at 4:00 PM and the program will begin at 4:30; a brief reception with refreshments will follow the performance at approximately 5:30.
